Have you ever heard yourself say “I know what I need to do, I’m just not doing it”? Or, have your heard yourself say that you “just want to feel better, but I don't know where to start”?
If so, a health and wellness coach may be just the place to start!
What is a health and wellness coach?
Basically, a coach is your partner in change. We work together to clarify what you’re wanting for yourself and then help you create a plan to get you there. Your coach will help keep you accountable through follow-up sessions.
Small choices each day will add up to big changes.
What are some other common reasons that someone works with a coach?
People work with a health and wellness coach for lots of reasons. Sometimes, you may not even be quite sure what you want to work on but just know that you want to make some changes and want to feel better. Other times, people are through with quick fixes and want to figure out how to make lasting change.
Times of transition are another popular time to work with a coach. Sometimes, the transitions are happy ones like an engagement, wedding, new baby, new job or retirement. Other times, the transition may be associated the loss of a loved one or loss of a job. Another big transition time is when a child goes to school.
Basically, any time is a great time to take make some changes!
What do we talk about during a coaching session?
We talk about you! Some common areas that we talk about include stress, sleep, nutrition, physical activity, balance, communication, weight management, and clutter. The last one on that list can surprise people. But, de-cluttering is a popular subject because our environment plays a big role in our well-being and stress levels. One client actually lost 15 lbs once they cleaned up their desk. Through our sessions, we discovered that they would avoid the mess on their desk by going for a snack.
How does a WellStyles Wellness Coaching Program work?
It's really simple!
1. Your first coaching session is typically 30 - 60 minutes. During this session, you'll tell your coach all about you. You'll discuss what you value most, what your lifestyle is like and what you'd like it be. You'll then work together to develop a plan. This plan will include your long term goals as well as the little steps that will help you ultimately reach them.
2. After your first session, you and your coach will have follow-up sessions that fit your schedule. Your follow-up sessions will focus on your successes and challenges from the previous week. You'll talk about what worked, what didn't, explore why and then you'll develop goals for the next week. Many people are surprised to learn that often the most productive
sessions are often when you did not accomplish your goals. This is when you and your coach can really figure
out what is holding you back from making the choices that will get you to where you want to be.
3. The length of your program will depend entirely on what you want. We recommend a program be at least 6 - 8 sessions in order to make the most lasting change. However, everyone is different. Some people want a shorter program and others prefer to have more of an ongoing relationship with their coach as a support system. Since this is
about what you want, you and your coach work together to customize your program.
Do I have to meet my coach in person?
Not at all! We can meet via phone, zoom or email. In fact, most clients meet remotely!
Does my coach just tell me what to do?
No. Though there are times we all wish someone had all the answers, only you know what is best for you and your lifestyle. Your coach will listen and support you. Your coach will also ask you questions that will help you define and clarify your thinking and your goals. Often, your coach will make suggestions, but ultimately, you work together to make
a list of goals that feel good to you. In the end, the choices that you make for yourself are the most powerful.
What if I'm not sure if a coach is where I should begin?
A health and wellness coach may not be the right fit for you. Sometimes, we'll refer you to another professional or resource before we even get started. And, sometimes during the course of our work together, we may refer you to another professional or resource. We want you to succeed and have the right tools for you.
What should I expect at the end of my sessions?
You should expect to walk away with new insights about your well-being and a healthier life. You should gain a sense
of clarity that will help you make your healthiest choices in life. Most clients are not sure what a health and wellness coach can do for them at the beginning of their sessions. After just a few sessions though, clients typically say how thankful they are that they took the time to invest in themselves. As one client reported, “I actually pay attention to what I do each day and make choices that will help me instead of just letting life happen to me.”
In the end, you should feel great about yourself and the future.
