Need Some Ideas for your Superbowl Spread?

When we think of the Superbowl, we usually think of football, commercials and food! I'm not really sure why the tradition is to eat and drink while we sit and watch people in peak physical shape workout really, really hard. It's kind of funny to think about while I eat my chips and dip. :)

Don't worry! I'm not going to take away your Superbowl spread but there's no reason why we can't bring some moderation and healthy options to the party.

Wings are one of the of the quintessential foods of the Superbowl spread. But, many of us just want the flavor of buffalo wings and the wings are just the vehicle for the taste. So, why not try a few healthier options that keep the flavor but leave the wings behind? Try Buffalo Grilled Shrimp or Crispy Cauliflower Buffalo Wings

How about those chips and dips that we mindlessly eat as we watch those plays? Try baked tortilla chips and have some sliced vegetables like sliced up peppers near the dips. Swap out sour cream for greek yogurt in dip recipes. And, opt for hummus or salsa over cheese based dips. Another sure fire recipe is to combine a container of black bean puree with 1 container of salsa. I promise you people will ask how you you made it! And, it could NOT be easier.

And, of course, what's a Superbowl party with some guacamole? You can decide whether to buy or make it. I won't tell anyone which one you chose. Here's one of my favorite guacamole recipes.

Want some healthier options to fill up your guests but still have them feeling good? Try Sweet Potato Chili (leave out the meat to make it vegetarian), turkey meatballs, and a vegetarian chili are great options. Or have some fun and make a football pizza!

A great way to satisfy a crowd that may include people who are vegetarian, vegan, gluten free or lactose intolerant is to make a do it yourself taco bar with corn tortillas.

I know what you're thinking, "No treats?". Of course there are treats! I know I'll be having some! Here's a simple one. Try making your favorite peanut butter cookie and then top with some melted dark chocolate and add some 'laces'. This is a fun one to do with kids!

If you're a Patriots fan, you can even make Tom Brady's favorite Avocado "Ice cream".

One last idea since it's cold and flu season is to provide people with their own personal chip and dip plate. Or, provide spoons in each of the dips so people can serve the dip on their plates and avoid the old 'double dipping' party foul.

Whether you're having a party or just watching solo, have fun!
